Ours is not usually a demonstrative family. A hug upon arriving and another upon leaving. We are not constantly telling each other "I love you." But there is no doubt that we do love each other.
We display this love by the way we spend our time together. We always share stories about our childhood. The other day my brother Larry talked about the first time I had a Whopper at Burger King. Evidently I came home and said "I had a Whop for dinner." He said I was about 5 at the time. I don't remember it, but it was something he remembered. Another story we shared this week was about the time some bully was picking on one of the oldest of our brothers, Donald. Lita, who didn't really get along very well with Donald at that time, jumped on the bully's back and fought him off. The bully's parents came and complained about Lita beating up their son. She didn't get in trouble for protecting her brother - just told she shouldn't be doing that.
When the cousins were here last weekend, the stories just went on and on. Of course, since there are twelve years between Lita and I, most of these stories were just that - stories. I was too young to be a part of it, but I enjoy hearing about them.
Some of my favorite memories of Lita in my childhood come from my teenage years. I loved to rollerskate, and she did too. I would go for a double-session which I think ran from 7 - 12, but Lita would come later in the evening after she visited with Glenn. She would have to show her license to prove she was old enough to stay for the second session. She got a kick out of this since she was in her mid- to late-twenties! She looked so young that the guys my age were hitting on her!
Well, thanks for letting me ramble on, but I bet what you really want to know is "How's Lita?" She is doing good. She is still enjoying meals and actually ate a slice and a half of a yummy lemon sponge cake that Lok and his friend Paul brought today.
Over the last few days all of her siblings and an uncle have made it into town and she was able to have nice visits with them. She got to talk to her cousin in California and got email from another in Colorado (he said he always considered her his "cool cousin" :-) Today she had friends from the office come for a visit, and her son is here for the night. After a rest she is feeling well and is snuggled up with her son watching television. Ah, pure bliss in that.
Til next time,
Clydene

Thank you Clydene for the update. I have been checking daily. I know you are busy and have your hands full. But I am glad you found the time to inform us of Lita's days. I am so glad she is feeling well and snuggling with Peter. I am also glad that laughs are to be shared regarding past memories of fun and frolick.
ReplyDeleteI just spoke with Johnny and he is going to try and call. His situtation will not make it possible for him to visit.
Tell Lita I am thinking of her and send my love.
Smiles and Hugs, Cousin Eileen
Okay, so I'm not family but I just couldn't figure out how to post a comment other than piggy backing on something here along the way. I'm sure it isn't that difficult to figure out how to post something, but I sure couldn't plus the page was under construction or some fool thing. So my friend, Lita, called me last night to say goodbye and tell me what I meant to her. Well, I really was expecting a call from Zoots reminding me that tomorrow was my pick up and delivery day as they call me every Sunday at 6:30pm, so I was taken a little aback, as one might imagine since I was thinking about my laundry at the time. I was truly touched and pleased, Lita, to be one of those that you chose to call personally. Not being one to think fast on my feet when it counts, I know I blubbered a couple of "I love you, too"s back to you, but nothing poignant or something that conveyed to you how special our time was together... the good ones and the bad. Some memories that popped into my mind... We were the two city chicks stuck in EB wondering how the hell we ended up here (what was the name of that kid from Somerville you used to always pine for??). I would never have survived high school were not for your friendship... I almost didn't despite your friendship; eating chocolate soft serve at Dairy Queen, SloGin Fizzes at the Towne Line, apricot sours at Muldoon's and the Melodie Lounge. What was the name of that band you liked so much? Celebrating your high graduation by going for a bike ride. You being beside me thru thick n thin during those torid high school days. Summer days at Duxbury beach. That big ol' maroon boat you used to drive. You working at Mammoth Mart and Child World. Sharing an apt in Quincy... in an apt bldg that a freakin' helicopter crashed into, for pete's sake. You remember telling me that Glenn was gonna break out and come stay at the apt. Yoiks! :) 144 Plymouth Street. Doug Harlow. Dana, Mark, Diane, Darlene... Hanging out at your pool in your backyard on Plymouth Street... and lastly, dinner at that steak house not too long ago, where while you were eating like a maniac, I wondered how the hell you could be so sick. :) So, my dear friend, many wonderful and life altering times together... and I'm glad you were able to see how your life has touched so many others in such positive ways... just like the movie.
ReplyDeleteLove and Godspeed, my friend.
Trish
Trish,
ReplyDeleteYou may not be family by blood, but you have always been family to Lita.
